The menu option will cycle by the game itself and the game will be unplayable. There is a very weird bug that happen if you don't see the joystick ajust screen. You need to activate the program before starting the game Using AlienX99 idea, switching to SVGA_S3 in the dosbox option and using the Univbe program (putting it in the same folder as need for speed) Sometime being caught by the police crash the game If you use Dosbox Defaults setting, the game will have some problemĢ. is there otherways i can get this to run? i have read previous comments and even tryed changing the graphics card and loading univbe, (wow last time i loaded that exe i was running a 2mb cirrus logic). no matter if i use the -ioctl command for cd-rom mounting or not. On both versoin 0.73 and 0.74 the SE version of need for speed 1 installs fine for me, sets up sound blaster and videos work fine however the game stops loading when i goto race, it shows a car pic and then nothing. If I put in a gear, the car will accelerate to 25 mph and then instantly slow down. But the game itself works even with a steering wheel. It doesn't matter if I use UNIVBE or not. No videos and weird acceleration bug ( 09:32) With UNIVBE and svga_et4000 even the videos will work. Re-installed it from CD and it works just fine. The problem was a corrupted installation. Works fine in default DOSBos 0.74 ( 09:20) If you set it to read-only then the cars should accelerate as normal. The specific file is SIMDATACARSPECSBY_R&T. It may also serve as a copy protection (it tries to write to a file which it expects to be on the CD). The failure to accelerate once you reach 25MPH seems to be some sort of protection against changing the performance characteristics of the cars. when running I can see the dos4/gw logo and then the game exits (no graphics showing), and I am back to dosbox prompt. Installed from original CD installation ok. i figured out from youtube i had to use -t cdrom when mounting the drives I am still working on it.Need for Speed Special Edition - Electronic Arts (1996) Also, the game has known problems cooperating in windows2000/xp systems (don't know about vista) with more that 512MB of RAM. The only thing I have noticed are some sound glithes. I have tried this on an two computers, with a NVIDIA and an ATI cards, and it's almost perfect. Make sure you make a FULL installation of the game. Close all open windows, eject and reinsert the disc, and install the game. Make sure that the "Run in 256 colors" and "Run in 640x480 screen resolution" options are disabled. Then enable the "disable visual themes", and "turn off advanced text services for this program" options. Enable the "Run this program in compatibility mode for" option. Right click on SETUP.EXE file (it's the one that has an icon with a grey computer and a box infront) -> click on "Properties" -> click on the "Compatibility" tab. Go to "(My) Computer" -> Right click your disc drive (the one the game disk is inserted into) and then click on "open" -> go to "SETUP" folder -> go to "ENGLISH" folder (or whatever other language you wish to choose as the installation language)Ģ. If you already have the game installed, please uninstall it (don't worry, we will install it again, but in such way it will make it compatible)ġ. NOTE: You must not have the game already installed in your computer in order to follow this procedure. And I 've tried to make it as much detailed as possible, so non-advanced users can follow it. Game will run almost just as good and in the same speed as under win95/98/me.
